Analysis Of Elizabeth Huey s The Superintendent

Throughout its long history, art has evolved from images splattered onto cave walls into brilliant paintings done by easily recognizable artists such as Pablo Picasso. Recently, contemporary artwork has been making its own name in the world of art by introducing many new techniques and styles of art. One of these artists is Elizabeth Huey. Huey has been one of many artists who have changed the style of artwork over the last few decades. Instead of being full of biblical references, Huey’s artwork represents an observation of something she saw, and then added her own personal characteristics to it. These characteristics are demonstrated in her painting titled â€Å"The Superintendent†, along with several other paintings done by her in the past decade. Elizabeth Huey was born in 1971. She obtained a MFA from Yale University after obtaining a BA in Psychology from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Prior to receiving degrees, Huey studied art and completed re sidencies in Miami, Florida, Saratoga Springs, New York, and at the Terra Foundation of American Art in Giverny, France (Huey). To this day, she works in her studio in Los Angeles, California on contemporary artwork. In all of her artworks, Huey focuses on material surrounding humanity and healing. Her techniques could be referred to as â€Å"hipster† like, however they have a tremendous following in the art world of today, with many of her pieces having places in several art museums across the country.
